Class Descriptions

June Camps--Rocks and Minerals
Have you ever wondered about the rocks you find? Come to the Rocks and Minerals Day Camp and find out what kinds of rocks there are and how they are made. Participate in activities that will show you how to tell what kind of minerals make up the rocks you see everyday.

July Camps--Dinosaur Days
What makes a dinosaur a dinosaur and not a mammal? How much did dinosaurs weigh? Learn the answers to these and many other questions about dinosaurs. Take part in activities that will help you know and understand some of the fascinating aspects of the wonderful creatures called dinosaurs.

Prices and Times

Camp times are 9 am to 11:30 am daily. Each camp term lasts for one week.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Camps: June 19-23 and July 17-21
2nd and 3rd Grade Camps: June 12-16 and July 10-14
4th thru 6th Grade Camps: June 26-30 and July 24-28
Cost is $125 per camp week for non members, $100 per camp week for RMDRC members.
Deadline for registration is two weeks before camp. The total amount is due at registration.
Each camp must have a minimum of 5 participants and a maximum of 20 for the class to take place.
Forms can be picked up at the RMDRC front desk or online at www.rmdrc.com.


Check-In and Pick-Up:
Check-in and Pick-up will be just inside the main entrance to the museum.
Parents or guardians must sign the child both in and out.
It is imperative that you stress with your child that he/she remain with the instructor until he/she is signed out by a parent or guardian.
The person who signs in the child must be the person who signs them out unless previous arrangements have been made.
Please be aware that the museum does not offer supervision of children before or after workshops.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Please Be on Time:
Your child’s class will leave the admissions desk at the scheduled start time.
Depending on the day’s activities, if you are late for the start time your child may not be allowed to participate that day.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:
All sales are final.
The Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center has no refund, no credit, and no exchange policy.
Full refunds will be given only if the Museum cancels a workshop.
On occasion, the Museum may cancel a workshop due to insufficient enrollment.
If we cannot reschedule, we will refund. Medication Policy: Museum staff is not permitted to administer or accept medications, including EpiPens. Please do not leave any medications with the museum staff. If you child has a medical condition that requires medical attention, please speak to the Education Director. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you.

          Paleo Patch Program for Scouts

Earn a
Jr. Paleontologist    
"Paleo Patch."

RMDRC Paleo Patch Program meets all the requirements for the Girl Scout Dinosaur Patch and some of the requirements for the Archeology and Geology Boy Scout Merit Badges.

  Guided Tour (approximately one and a half hours and includes:)
Explore our fascinating dinosaur exhibits
Learn what a Paleontologist does
Discover how fossils are formed and preserved
Identify what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur
Learn where fossils are found
See what lived in the oceans at the time of the dinosaurs

Fossil and Dinosaur Workshop (approximate two hours and includes:)
Make your own "fossil" cast
Learn about casting techniques
Watch Paleontologists as they work to uncover a dinosaur bone in a "behind-the-scenes" tour
Complete a scavenger hunt
Participate in hands-on activities such as "Name That Dinosaur"

Cost is $6 per scout.  Troop leader is free.  No siblings please. 

Price included guided tour, workshop, Jr. Paleontology "Paleo Patch" and certificate.

Minimum: 10 scouts  Maximum: 20 scouts

Lesson plans developed by Regis University students are available as a resource.



 School Tours

 

 


Ages 5 and over are $5 each with 1 free adult per 10 students. 

Bus driver is free.

Guided tour lasts approximately 1 hour and includes:

Explore our fabulous dinosaur exhibits,
Understand what a Paleontologist does,
Discover how fossils are formed and preserved,
Identify what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur,
Learn where fossils are found,
See what lived in the oceans 65 million years ago.
And See fossils prepared in our lab! 

Teachers will be mailed a Pre-Tour Packet that includes Dinosaur and Museum background information, student activities for all ages, and a scavenger hunt to be used after the tour.

All students and teachers are welcome to shop in the Prehistoric Paradise Gift Store following the tour.
The gift store has many items starting at 50 cents and up.
