RMDRC News

It's hard to believe that we have crossed our 2 year anniversary mark here in Woodland Park, Colorado -  Wow, that went quick! During that time we have seen a large number of exhibit changes, special programs, fantastic lecturers, and an outpouring of support from our community. Thanks to everyone who helped make the RMDRC a success! And a special recognition to owners Mike and JJ Triebold for bringing their vision and dreams to reality.

The month of May was a special time for Mothers and teachers who enjoyed FREE admission as we appreciate all your hard work.

In June, Dads will enjoy the same special treatment, so mark your calendars.

Finally, in July we invite all military personnel for a 1/2 price admission (see details in this newsletter) just to say thank you!

Sincerely,
Dave Ehlert

Dinosaur News

Interested in huge rocks impacting Earth? Well, read the article "Huge meteor strike gave birth to the Dinosaur".

Armor helped dinosaurs defend themselves. Scientists have discovered "Bones of rare a huge Armored Dinosaur" discovered in Utah.

One of the great sites to see dinosaurs is in Vernal, Utah. However, due to lack of funding the future can be unpredictable. Read the article "Center Deteriorating at Dinosaur Monument".

Upcoming Exhibits & Events

June 18
Dad's Get in FREE

Hey, Kids. Looking for a fun way to spend Father's Day with Dad? Bring him to the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center and he'll get in FREE with a child's paid admission. What a great way to bond with Dad and have some great dinosaur fun. The doors open at 10 am.

July 4 & 5
Military Appreciation Days

Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center will be offering 1/2 price admissions for military personnel with ID's. This is an opportunity for military families to visit the museum and have a great family outing. We appreciate all they're doing for our country and want to give them a fun day out with the family. The doors open at 9 am.

August 5 & 6
Critter Fest

Adopt a Rescue Animal and Get FREE admission to the RMDRC! Running 10am-4pm, bring the family out for some real "live" entertainment at Critter Fest! The lineup is still being planned but so far we have The Division of Wildlife, live raptors, reptiles, llamas, organizations supporting dog and cat rescues (and their friends for adoption), and of course fossils and Dinosaurs. Most will be displayed outside the RMDRC but events such as our guest speaker "Jeanne McElderry" (from the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center - speaking on bats) will be held in the RMDRC marine area.  Lectures are free with paid museum admission.  RMDRC members are free.

Lab News

In our paleo lab, we have been busy working on props for a marine movie to be released next year. This is a huge undertaking for which we need another week or two to complete and get out the door. Almost the entire organization has pitched in and helped with this project's critically tight deadline.

Once this project has been completed, we have an even larger project involving building a number of skeletons for an international customer. Details are coming, but this will keep us busy for the next several months.

Educationally Speaking

There is still room in the Rocks and Minerals class for June 26 – 30. In this class kids will gain knowledge about the characteristics of minerals and get to actually identify specimens. They will learn how to recognize common rocks from the Pikes Peak area and complete hands-on activities showing how they were formed. The best part is receiving specimens to start their own collection and be instructed in the techniques for adding to their collections. Every day will cover something new and exciting with hands-on activities!
