E-NEWSLETTER / November 2004

Winter Comes:

Just as we set back our clocks this past weekend, the weather changes and Woodland Park becomes a winter wonderland. With 3' to 6' inches of new snow, all hands were put to shoveling the powdery stuff for a good portion of yesterday (Nov 1st) morning.

We have had a good October with just a few events on the calendar such as our highly successful Retile Encounter weekend, Halloween, plus many school children visiting through field trips.

Stay tuned and get involved for our November schedule. Triebold Paleontology, Inc. will be attending both the SVP (Nov. 3-6) and GSA (Nov. 7-10) conferences in Denver; a Fashion Show Benefit on Nov. 4th at the RMDRC and Phil Currie coming to speak on Nov 7th.

For these events and more, read on and stay warm this winter!

News from the Field:

In mid-October, Triebold Paleontology was called to Southeast Texas to investigate a large marine reptile discovered by a landowner.

Mike Triebold and Colin Gore from the RMDRC began working the riverbed where the specimen was eroding from and found that most (if not all) of the bones were there but disarticulated.

After a week of excavating, the bones were back in Colorado being prepared. The is a possibility that this specimen might be larger than the "Bunker" Tylosaur currently on display in the RMDRC - stretching to 45 feet long.

Many more hours are required before we truly know the size of this new specimen and we plan to put it on display  in the RMDRC for 2005.

Here is one of the largest concentrations of Tylosaur fossils just prior to begin jacketed.

LIVE Reptile Show at the RMDRC:

On October 2nd and 3rd, 2004, the RMDRC hosted "Colorado Gators" and some of their cold-blooded friends.

Hundreds of visitors came and saw such creatures as an alligator, crocodile, various turtles and reptiles during two shows (one on Sat, one on Sun).

The best part was the hands-on where visitors, many of them small children, were able to hold some of the animals.

Retiles bring out the crowds at the RMDRC.
