RMDRC NEWS:
Dinoriffic Holidays Coming
We had a very special treat when famous SCI-FI author
Alan Dean Foster visited the RMDRC on Monday, October 24th. Alan Dean has
written over 100 novels including Aliens, Star Wars, and the Flinx and Pip
series. Many people were on hand to hear his fantastic travels and
inspiration to write. As a bonus, he signed books for all of his fans! Many
thanks to Alan Dean foster from the RMDRC and SCI-FI enthusiasts.
Members of the RMDRC attended the recent The Society of
Vertebrate Paleontology conference in Phoenix recently. If you are a
dinosaur buff, this is where all the gurus from the paleontological
community gather to discuss topics from evolution to the latest discoveries.
We welcome a new employee, Julie Brindley who comes
from the educational field. Julie will be heading up our school programs and
memberhips. We are lucky to have her experience and energy!
There are a number of events for the holidays at the
RMDRC. Bring in your family and friends and share the festivities with us!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Regards,
Dave Ehlert, RMDRC Director

CURATOR CORNER:
News from the Lab:
We are pleased to have the
first phase of molding the original bones on the Polycotylus (short-necked
plesiosaur) complete. Now, we have begun the cast restoration of deformed
vertebrate and other elements. We anticipate this exciting specimen to be
molded, cast, and assembled early in 2006. In addition, the original skull
elements of the new “Texas Tylosaur,” a.k.a. “Sophie,” are almost finished
being molded. Also, we have many of our cast specimens being assembled for
other various museums.
Once a year, we join our fellow paleontologists at the
Society of Vertebrate Paleontology conference to discuss new and current
specimen, preparation techniques, and other scientific endeavors. October
19-22, 2005, we traveled to Mesa, Arizona to attend this enlightening
conference. Our laboratory and museum have proven to be among the best
paleontologic resources available worldwide.
Cheers,
Nikki Hemmesch, Curator
