World-renown paleontologist Dr. Phil Currie to present lecture on “Feathered Dinosaurs” in Woodland Park

The local public perception of dinosaurs may be altered forever when world-renown paleontologist Dr. Phil Currie, Curator of Dinosaurs at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology, presents a discussion entitled “Feathered Dinosaurs” at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 7 at the Ute Pass Cultural Center in Woodland Park, Colo.

This is a rare opportunity for anyone interested in paleontology including the many children who love dinosaurs and dream of one day being a paleontologist.

Seating for Dr. Currie’s presentation is limited. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center at (719) 686-1820 x 112 or purchased online at www.rmdrc.com. Ticket prices are as follows: $10 adults, $5 adult RMDRC members, $8 children 6-12, $4 children 6-12 RMDRC members and children under 5 are admitted free.

Following his presentation, Dr. Currie will be at the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center (across the street from the Ute Pass Cultural Center) at 3 p.m. for a book signing. A selection of Dr. Currie’s books will be available for sale in the Prehistoric Paradise gift shop within the RMDRC.

Anyone who purchases a ticket to the Dr. Currie presentation and presents his/her ticket stub at the RMDRC will receive a discount for same-day admission to the museum.

"Feathered Dinosaurs, and the Origin of Birds"

Talking to a crowded room in Woodland Park, Colo., across the highway from the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center, Dr Currie delighted the crowd with the latest information on dinosaur-bird relationships.

Dr. Currie's  latest research is in finding more early dinosaurs that presented proto-feathers in the fossil record and clues to help solidify the bird ancestry from new discoveries coming out of places such as China.

Following his discussion, Dr. Currie went to the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center after 3 p.m. for a book signing during which he was gracious to answer questions on his career. ABOUT DR. PHIL CURRIE:

Dr. Currie is an icon in the field of paleontology. Many may recognize him as one of the few often cited experts on television documentaries about dinosaurs. He has appeared in over 600 newspaper articles, magazine articles, radio programs and film and television programs including National Geographic Magazine, New York Times, NBC’s Today Show, PBS’s Nova series, Canadian Geographic, Equinox and Time magazine. He has given more than 200 lectures around the world and he has been widely published with 61 scientific articles, 80 popular articles and ten books to his credit.

Dr. Currie’s research is extensive with almost 30 years of field work around the world and includes (but is by no means limited to) projects on feathered dinosaurs, mass deaths of ceratopsian dinosaurs, pterosaurs, dinosaur footprints of British Columbia and Alberta,  bird origins and Centrosaurus.
