What’s Happening?

Due to current state mandates all persons ages 11 and older are required to wear masks in all public buildings,  limited capacity (there maybe some time on a wait list) and social distancing between family groups.

May 8, Sat., 1:00pm-2:00pm…Cinco de Mayo Everyone is trying to get Big Bear to wake up, but he just wants to keep sleeping. How do the other animals get him to wake up and join in the fun? Join Cathy and all the animals as she tells stories and sings songs about Cinco de Mayo. There will be a lot of puppet fun, stories and laughter which you can be part of! Make a Cinco de Mayo craft after the show.

May 9, Sun., 10:00am-5:00pm…Mother’s Day…Mother’s are free with one paid adult or child’s regular admission.

May 15 Sat., 11:00am-3:00pm…Wings and Warriors…Will be here with their wonderful service dogs from 11:00pm-3:00pm to discuss how they assist in locating the dogs for veterans who would benefit from having one of these animals, and how they evaluate and train the dogs for the Veterans. Come with your questions and talk with the experts who know the answers. This is a nonprofit organization and they will have leashes, keychains, wood art and other items for sale.

May 31, Mon., – 9:00am-6:00pm…Memorial Day…DRC will be open all day.

June 5 Sat., 10:00am-3:00pm…Outdoor Family Fun Day Join us on our outdoor plaza for a fun filled day with your friends and family and enjoy the following booths:  Banana Events-Balloon Art, Corbin Hillam Design-Chalk Drawing, Jimmy John’s-Gourmet sandwiches, Kona Ice-40 flavors shaved ice, Florissant Fossil Quarry-Shale Splitting, Girl Scouts-Info Booth, Sierra Case-Artist, Peak Vista Community Health Centers-Health Info Booth, Children’s Literacy-Info Booth, John Patterson-Artist, Wings and Warriors-Veterans and their service dogs, DStephanie Fields, Park Ranger-Skins and Skulls presentation, Cool Science-Science Activities. June 19, Sat., 1:00pm-2:00pm…Mystical Magical Entertainment…Magic by Larry Scott provides a high energy and interactive show! This event will contain escapes, rope & card tricks and magic with water. “Rigsby” the card finding Racoon, will also make an appearance. Come and see this fun magical show and perhaps learn a trick or so yourself!

June 20, Sun., 10:00am-5:00pm…Father’s Day…Father’s are free with one paid adult or child’s regular admission.

July 3, Sat., 9:00am-3:00pm…Craft Fair…Make your way to our outdoor plaza for our annual DRC Craft Fair! It’s fun for all ages with  jewelry, artwork, good food and so much more. 

July 4, Sun., 10:00am-5:00pm…Independence Day…Get one half off of regular admission with active or retired Military I.D.

Jul 10, Sat., 10:00am-4:00pm…Jul 11, Sun., 11:00am-3:00pm… Trains, Trains, Trains… The Pikes Peak Division of the National Model Railroad Association will be here with a great opportunity to learn about model trains. Bring your camera and join us for this very fun and unique event. Sat., 07/10 – 10am-4pm, Sun., 07/11 – 11am-3pm.

July 31, Sat., 01:15pm-3:15pm…Calling and Commitment…Join us with Eric Melvin, Angelyne and Maddie the amazing DEAF Cattle Dogs. There will be will a 2 hour appearance with video, discussion, presentation and meet and greet with Maddie. Handouts will be provided at the end of the show. Visitors will get to ask questions and find out how Eric trains his dogs. Maddie will help tell Angelyne’s story and legacy following Eric’s hand signals.

Aug 7, Sat., 09:00am-3:00pm…Critter Rescue Roundup…Further details will be added. Keep checking our website for updates.

Aug 28 Sat., 1:00pm-2:30pm…Hocus Pocus with a Science Focus… This event is a grab bag of Science. Experience the excitement of illusions and become a Science Magician. Use science to amaze your friends! With a little of this and a little of that, it’s fun for everyone!

Sept 5, Mon., 9:00am – 6:00pm…Labor Day…DRC is open all day.

Oct 16, Sat., 11:30am-3:00pm…Physics is Phun…Air Force Academy… Come learn about and have fun with electricity and magnetism, angular momentum and temperature/air pressure. Learn how this is related to lasers and eyeglasses! Watch demonstrations of visible examples of Newton’s laws. This is a very fun and educational day for everyone. There will be interactive activities and a question and answer period in between and before and after the shows. Shows are at 11:30am and 2:00pm.

Oct 30, Sat., 01:00pm-3:00pm…Silly Stitches…Silly Stitches, the scarecrow, is trying once again to scare away the crows, but as usual he’s not having much luck. Everyone will laugh at Stitches’ silly Halloween stories and songs plus the kids will be able to take home a fun Halloween craft and treat bag. Be sure and wear your Halloween costume for the parade and costume contest after the show. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

Nov 6, Sat., 1:00pm-2:30pm…Mix and Fizz…Science Matters… A little of this, a little of that, some wild reactions is where it’s at! Make a slushy treat to eat, create a fizzy bath bomb and see Soda Slobber. We will make water disappear and play with snow that never melts. You won’t believe that our mixing fun can teach some science before it is done. With a pop, or a bang, or even some fizz, you have become a chemistry whiz!

Nov 25, Thurs., – Thanksgiving…DRC will be CLOSED on Thanksgiving Day. We will reopen on Friday, November 26th.

Dec 18, Sat., 12:30pm-3:00pm…Who’s That With the Red Hat?Mrs. Claus and Santa want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and invite you to join them for a “Merry” afternoon of Christmas joy. Santa will be hearing the children’s Christmas wishes and handing out candy canes. Mrs. Claus will delight everyone with her puppets, silly props and songs. After the show everyone will make a special Christmas craft to take home. You can also make a craft for our tree and hang it up. You don’t want to miss this special holiday celebration! The fun starts at 12:30pm. Bring your camera and take a picture of you in front of our tree with Mrs. Claus and Santa! Treat bags will be handed out to each child. 12:30pm visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus, 1:00pm show starts.

Dec 19, Sun., 11:00am-2:00pm…Dec 22, Wed., 11:00am-2:00pm…Santa and the Dinos…Make a trip to the Dinosaur Resource Center for a visit with Santa and the Dinosaurs! We will have our craft table available to make an ornament for our Christmas tree as well as one for yourselves. Join us for some Christmas fun! Included with museum admissions.

Dec 24, Fri., 9:00am-3:00pm…Christmas Eve…DRC will be closing early at 3:00pm.

Dec 25, Sat., – DRC will be closed on Christmas Day. We will reopen on Sunday, December 26th.

Dec 31, Fri., 9:00am-3:00pm… New Year’s Eve…DRC will be closing early at 3:00pm. We will reopen on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
